SAEDNEWS: US President Writes Letter to Vice President to Be Opened in Case of His Death or Assassination

Trump Prepared His Will Before Trip to China, to Be Delivered to Vance

According to the political news service SaedNews, citing Fars News Agency, as U.S. President Donald Trump began a diplomatic trip to China amid rising security threats, reports about a confidential letter kept in the White House drew media attention.

Sebastian Gorka, a senior White House counterterrorism official, revealed in a podcast interview that Trump has written a letter addressed to his deputy, JD Vance, which is kept in his desk drawer at the White House. The letter is intended to be used in the event of the president’s death or possible assassination.

The disclosure comes as Trump approaches his 80th birthday, with his age and physical health becoming increasingly prominent topics in political debate.

Given that he has survived three recent failed assassination attempts over the past two years—including a shooting in Pennsylvania and foiled plots in Florida and Washington—issues surrounding presidential succession have gained added importance.

Security questions during the China visit

The revelation of the letter coincided with Trump’s visit to Beijing for a meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping.

Some analysts, pointing to the intense rivalry between Washington and Beijing, had raised concerns about the U.S. president’s security during the trip.

However, Sebastian Gorka stated in the interview that, contrary to such concerns, the president is in full security protection and that all necessary emergency measures have been prepared.

Legal framework and succession protocols

Although the exact contents of the letter have not been disclosed, its existence reflects considerations regarding potential scenarios involving Trump’s death, especially in light of multiple unsuccessful assassination attempts.

Under the 25th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, if the president dies or becomes incapacitated, the vice president immediately assumes presidential duties.

Trump, who is expected to turn 80 next month, has survived three major assassination attempts in less than two years. The first occurred in July 2024 in Butler, Pennsylvania, where he was wounded in the ear and one attendee was killed. Two additional cases included a foiled plot in West Palm Beach, Florida, and another incident in Washington, D.C.
