According to SaedNews, The Carter Center announced that former U.S. President Jimmy Carter passed away on Sunday night at the age of 100 at his home in Plains, Georgia.

In recent years, Carter had been battling melanoma, a type of skin cancer that had spread to his liver and brain. He served only one term as president, losing his re-election bid to Republican candidate Ronald Reagan. Born on October 1, 1924, James Earl Carter Jr. led the country through a turbulent period, including the Iranian hostage crisis, which became a major political setback for his administration.

In 2002, Carter was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for his humanitarian efforts and contributions to the establishment of The Carter Center.
