Iranian Handwoven Carpet Sold at Baghdad Antique Auction

According to the Saed News Society Service, a handmade Iranian carpet from Tehran was sold at the Al-Baghdadi auction in the Al-A'zamiya district, where museum items and antiques are regularly offered, for 4 million Iraqi dinars.

Dhulfiqar Al-Baghdadi, the auction’s director, stated that the carpet is between 120 and 130 years old, adding that it is one of the most valuable antiques ever offered at auctions in Iraq.

Measuring 2.3 meters in length and 1.5 meters in width, the carpet has remained undamaged despite its age and has never undergone restoration or repair. Al-Baghdadi noted that it is a rare and high-quality Tehran-style Iranian carpet.

He explained that the carpet was woven in the early 20th century and originally belonged to an Iraqi family, who decided to auction it due to financial pressures. After price negotiations, the carpet was placed on the market in accordance with current Iraqi market values, reaching 4 million dinars.

Iranian carpets have long been renowned and widely used, often considered a national symbol of Iran. Handmade carpets from Iran attract global attention for their vibrant colors, fine materials, intricate designs, and the artistic skill of their weavers.
