Iran’s President Offers Condolences Following Deadly Floods in Indonesia

In a message to Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto on Monday, Iranian official Pezeshkian expressed profound sorrow over the recent tragedy, saying, “The distressing incident of floods and landslides in the Sumatra region, which has resulted in the loss of lives and injuries among many Muslims in that friendly and brotherly nation, has deeply grieved me.”

Speaking on behalf of the Iranian government and nation, he extended sympathies to the families of the victims, prayed for divine mercy for those who lost their lives, and wished a swift recovery for the injured.

President Pezeshkian also highlighted Iran’s readiness to provide full humanitarian and relief support to the affected communities. He expressed hope that, with God’s grace, the consequences of this natural disaster would be swiftly mitigated and normalcy restored in the impacted areas.

The death toll from the floods, which struck Indonesia last week, has risen to over 600, while rescue workers continue their efforts to reach affected areas. Triggered by a rare cyclone over the Malacca Strait, the floods have impacted three provinces and approximately 1.5 million people.

Another 500 people remain missing, with thousands more injured. Indonesia is among several Asian countries recently battered by heavy rains and storms, with Thailand, Malaysia, and Sri Lanka also reporting casualties.
