SAEDNEWS: On Wednesday, the Permanent Mission of Iran to the UN announced that the response to the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh, the Chief of Hamas's Political Bureau, will involve "special operations."
According to SAEDNEWS, "The response to this assassination will involve special operations—more intense and designed to instill profound regret in the perpetrator," it stated on X.
This announcement came just hours after Haniyeh was killed in an airstrike in Tehran.
Anadolu news agency reported that Haniyeh was in the Iranian capital to participate in the inauguration ceremony of new President Masoud Pezeshkian on Tuesday.
Haniyeh had been reelected as the head of Hamas's Political Bureau in 2021 for a second consecutive term, which is set to conclude in 2025.
His death occurred amidst Israel's ongoing military campaign in the Gaza Strip, which has resulted in over 39,400 fatalities and more than 91,000 injuries since October 7, 2023.
According to a statement from the IRGC, both Ismail Haniyeh and one of his bodyguards were killed when their residence was targeted in Tehran.
Hamas has declared that the cowardly assassination of Haniyeh will not go unanswered.
In a comment regarding the incident, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Nasser Kan'ani stated that an investigation is currently being conducted by the relevant institutions of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Earlier today, the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, remarked that avenging Haniyeh's martyrdom, which occurred on Iranian soil, is a responsibility.
He promised to take retribution for the blood of the 'dear guest' Haniyeh and warned the Israeli regime of severe consequences.
