SAEDNEWS: Sekanjabin, also known as Sikangabin or Honey Sekanjabin, has been enjoyed in Iran for centuries and is often called the "Iranian soft drink." This refreshing beverage is made from a mixture of grape vinegar (or apple cider vinegar) and honey, setting it apart from traditional Sekanjabin syrup, which uses sugar and vinegar.
This drink is highly regarded in traditional and herbal medicine for its numerous health benefits, including reducing blood fat, cleansing fatty liver, and treating asthma. Given its health properties, traditional medicine experts emphasize its consumption. In this guide, we will teach you how to prepare Honey Sekanjabin at home.
Mint Distillate: 1 cup
Vinegar (Apple Cider or Grape): 1/2 cup
Honey: 1 cup
In a small pot or saucepan, mix the mint distillate with vinegar.
You can use apple cider vinegar or any vinegar of your choice, but it’s best to use homemade vinegar since industrial vinegar is not suitable for this recipe.
Heat the mixture and let it boil for about 10 minutes until it starts bubbling.
After 10 minutes, remove it from the heat and pour it into a clean bowl.
Allow the mixture to cool slightly until it becomes lukewarm.
Add the honey and stir thoroughly until fully dissolved.
Pour the prepared Sekanjabin into a glass jar and store it in the refrigerator.
Chicory Distillate: 1 cup
Apple Cider Vinegar: 1/2 cup
Honey: 1 cup
Similar to the previous method, pour the chicory distillate and apple cider vinegar into a small pot.
Heat the mixture and let it boil for about 10 minutes.
Remove it from the heat and pour it into a bowl.
Let the mixture cool slightly, then add honey and mix well.
This version of Sekanjabin is particularly useful for blood thinning and can help with gallstones.
You can use various herbal distillates to customize the flavor and health benefits.
Adjust the amount of honey to suit your taste preference.
In some recipes, rock sugar (Nabat) or regular sugar is also used as a sweetener.
Enjoy this refreshing and health-boosting traditional Iranian drink!
