Speaking at a press briefing, Mr. Seddighi Saber recounted the devastating strikes that claimed the lives of his brother, a mechanical engineering professor, and other family members.

‘Killed for Their Potential’: Iranian Scientist’s Brother Accuses Israel of Targeting Civilian Intellect

According to Saed News, an Iranian survivor whose entire family was killed in an Israeli airstrike on the city of Astaneh Ashrafiyeh has accused the Israeli regime of deliberately targeting civilians with scientific and intellectual potential.

At a press briefing on Monday, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei introduced Mr. Seddighi Saber, the only surviving member of the family of the late Dr. Mohammadreza Seddighi Saber—an Iranian scientist killed during the war. Baghaei stated, “Mr. Saber’s family made the ultimate sacrifice in the path of Iran’s scientific progress,” and called the incident in Astaneh Ashrafiyeh “one of the most horrifying crimes committed by the Zionist regime against the Iranian people.”

According to Mr. Saber, the Israeli military carried out two separate airstrikes on their family residences. “My brother was a mechanical engineering professor. My nephew was a mathematics prodigy. I was left to collect the remains of my loved ones—murdered simply because they had potential to serve their country,” he said.

Saber described the attacks in detail. He stated that the first strike targeted his brother’s residence and his father-in-law’s home, severely burning his scientist brother. “In a second, more brutal attack, they bombed our family home in Astaneh Ashrafiyeh, killing every single member of the family. Today, nothing remains of our house,” he added.

He emphasized that the Israeli regime’s objective was not limited to scientists. “Their real target is the Iranian people,” Saber said. “I didn’t just hear this—I lived it.”

Saber also directly challenged the narratives promoted by Western media. “I must say this clearly to the media: Trump and Netanyahu lied to you. Which of these martyrs were building weapons? None. The media must report this truth to the world with honesty,” he declared.

In closing, Foreign Ministry Spokesman Baghaei announced that the Iranian government would take the case to international forums. “As Iran’s diplomatic apparatus, we pledge to take all necessary steps to document these crimes and defend the rights of the Iranian people on the global stage,” he said.

On Tuesday, June 24, Israel launched an airstrike on the city of Astaneh Ashrafiyeh, killing 15 civilians, including Martyr Seddighi Saber.

On June 13, Israel carried out an unprovoked act of aggression against Iran, assassinating a number of senior military commanders, nuclear scientists, and ordinary civilians.

More than a week later, the United States entered the conflict by bombing three Iranian nuclear facilities, in what was widely condemned as a serious violation of the United Nations Charter, international law, and the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).

In response, Iranian Armed Forces struck strategic locations across the occupied territories and targeted the al-Udeid Air Base in Qatar, the largest American military installation in West Asia.
