SAEDNEWS: Iran's Ambassador and Permanent Representative to UN Amir Saeid Iravani said that sanctions and inhumane blockade imposed on Cuba by US for more than six decades and under pretext of promoting democracy must end immediately.
According to SAEDNEWS, In a significant statement at the United Nations, Iran's Ambassador and Permanent Representative, Amir Saeid Iravani, called for the immediate ending of the US sanctions and blockade against Cuba, which have been in place for over sixty years. Speaking at the UN General Assembly meeting focused on the need to lift the US economic, commercial, and financial embargo on Cuba, Iravani emphasized that these actions must stop without any conditions.
Iravani remarked, "This action will not only bring relief to the Cuban people, but also send a powerful message that the era of coercion, domination and economic terrorism must end."
During his speech, he highlighted the problems caused by unilateral sanctions, saying they create obstacles to achieving peace and hinder a fair international order. He pointed out that these measures are not just harmful to Cuba but also affect global stability.
"Tragically, at this critical moment in history, the world faces complex challenges that demand unity and multilateralism more than ever," he stated. He criticized the US and some European countries for their persistent use of coercive measures, especially during ongoing conflicts in places like Gaza and Lebanon.
Iravani labeled the US sanctions against Cuba as one of the most unjust and long-lasting systems of unilateral actions ever taken against a nation. He described these sanctions as akin to a "military blockade," which is against modern international law.
He also noted the international community's consistent call for the lifting of the embargo, emphasizing that such measures remove basic rights from the Cuban people, including access to healthcare and education.
"This debate, however, goes beyond Cuba alone," he said. "The imposition of unilateral sanctions is a broader symptom of a policy framework that punishes independent nations that refuse to conform to the hegemonic agendas of a particular state."
Iravani concluded his speech by urging the international community to uphold multilateralism and reject any actions that threaten peace and stability. He reiterated that the embargo against Cuba must end immediately and unconditionally.
He affirmed Iran's commitment to stand with Cuba and other nations striving for justice, advocating for the removal of all forms of unilateral measures that challenge global cooperation and coexistence.
"I thank you, Mr. President," concluded Iravani, leaving the call for solidarity with Cuba clear within the assembly's discussions.
