SAEDNEWS: Iraq has officially lodged a complaint with the United Nations regarding Israel's use of its airspace for military actions against Iran. The complaint was submitted to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and the Security Council, expressing strong condemnation of Israel's actions.
According to SAEDNEWS, Government spokesman Basim al-Awadi announced on Monday that the letter highlights “the Zionist entity’s blatant violation of Iraq’s airspace and sovereignty by using Iraqi airspace to carry out an attack on the Islamic Republic of Iran on October 26.”
Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' al-Sudani has instructed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to discuss this violation with the United States—Israel's closest ally and main source of military support.
“The Iraqi government reaffirms its steadfast commitment to the country's sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity,” the statement emphasized. It further declared that “Iraq will not allow its airspace or land to be used for attacks on other nations, particularly neighboring countries with whom Iraq shares mutual respect and interests.”
Awadi noted that this position demonstrates Iraq's dedication to maintaining regional stability, supporting peaceful solutions through dialogue and understanding.
In related news, Iran's Air Defense Base reported that it successfully countered Israel's aggression over the weekend. Their air defenses intercepted the attacks, leading to some limited damage, which is currently under investigation. Residents near Tehran reported hearing loud sounds early Saturday, attributed to the activation of air defense systems.
The Israeli military actions resulted in the deaths of four Army servicemen early Saturday. According to Iran's General Staff of the Armed Forces, Israeli fighter jets utilized U.S.-controlled airspace over Iraq to launch missiles at Iranian military sites.
Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated on Sunday that the complicity of the United States in Israel’s aggression is “quite clear,” as the U.S. has provided Israel with military resources and airspace for the strikes.
