SAEDNEWS: Halsey reflects on the backlash she faced after releasing her new single and video for “Lucky.” Expressing regret for her return to music.
According to SAEDNEWS, After releasing her new single and video for “Lucky” last week, Halsey expressed that she “regret[s] coming back” following criticism from some fans regarding her return to music.
In a post on her Tumblr page tiredandlonelymuse, Halsey conveyed her dissatisfaction with fans who have “stuck around to chime in occasionally with their opinion of how much they hate me or how awful I am.”
“My own fans are hands down meaner to me than any other people on the planet,” she stated. “Not speaking for all of you, of course. But it used to be just a minority that were awful to me and now it seems like a majority have only stuck around to chime in occasionally with their opinion of how much they hate me or how awful I am. It’s hard to want to engage in a space that is completely devoid of any kindness, sympathy, patience; or to be honest human decency. Especially after years of hiding from the interactions for fear that this EXACT thing would happen. I don’t know man. I almost lost my life. I am not gonna do anything that doesn’t make me happy anymore. I can’t spiritually afford it.”
Though it’s not clear what specific criticisms she is referring to, Halsey indicated that after her diagnosis with lupus and a rare T-cell lymphoproliferative disorder in 2022, she was enthusiastic about returning to music. However, the feedback she has received so far regarding “Lucky” has made her regret that decision. “When I got sick,” she said, “all I could think about was getting better so I could come back and be a part of THIS again, but I don’t even know what this is anymore and I want to crawl in a hole and I regret coming back.”
“Lucky” is the first single from her upcoming fifth album, which currently does not have a release date. The track interpolates Britney Spears’ 2000 single of the same name, with Halsey asserting that Spears herself provided approval. For the video, she drew inspiration from Spears’ visuals and the concept suggesting that fame isn’t always what it seems.
