SAEDNEWS: A senior German lawmaker has blasted German Chancellor Olaf Scholz for deciding to place US missiles in the country without consulting the Bundestag.
According to SAEDNEWS, In a recent interview with the Rheinische Post, Amira Mohamed Ali, co-chairperson of the Bundnis Sahra Wagenknecht (BSW) association, criticized Chancellor Scholz for making a significant decision without parliamentary approval.
She emphasized the gravity of the situation, pointing out that this decision could significantly increase the risk of war for Germany. "This is a very dangerous course that the German government should reject," she stated, referring to the plan to deploy U.S. missiles on German soil as yet another escalation in military tensions.
The joint statement released by Washington and Berlin on July 10 confirms that the United States intends to begin deploying new long-range missile capabilities in Germany starting in 2026. In response, Anatoly Antonov, Russia's Ambassador to the United States, warned that such actions could spur a missile arms race and lead to uncontrolled escalation.
During a speech at the Main Naval Parade in St. Petersburg, Russian President Vladimir Putin cautioned Washington that if the U.S. proceeds with its missile deployment in Germany, Moscow would no longer consider itself bound by the unilateral moratorium on medium and short-range strike weapons. Following this statement, Christiane Hoffmann, First Deputy Spokesperson of the German Federal Government, acknowledged the cabinet's awareness of Putin's warnings during a recent news briefing.
