Iran’s Iron & Steel Exports Surge 10% in Just 5 Months: ISPA Report

Figures released by the Iranian Steel Producers Association (ISPA) show that Iran’s steel exports reached $2.97 billion in the five months to August 22, marking a 10% increase compared to the same period last year.

Volume growth drives revenue: Shipments jumped 30% year-on-year in the April–August period, totaling 15.732 million metric tons (mt). The surge was largely fueled by a record rise in raw iron exports, including sponge iron, pellets, and concentrates, which soared 38% year-on-year to 11.124 million mt.

Finished steel performance: Exports of finished steel products amounted to 1.446 million mt worth $676 million, down slightly by 7% in volume and 12% in value compared to 2024.

Mild steel growth: Mild steel shipments, used mainly in construction for buildings, roads, and bridges, climbed 25% in volume to 3.161 million mt, generating $1.31 billion—a 10% rise in revenue year-on-year.

Sector outlook: The combination of rising raw iron exports and growing mild steel shipments is driving hard currency revenues for Iran’s steel sector, highlighting the country’s expanding role as a key player in the regional and global steel market.

This surge underscores Iran’s strategic advantage in raw materials and its potential to further increase steel production and exports in the coming months.
